Celebrating Daniel Salas Mena: Five Years of Growth, Dedication, and a New Chapter at BEST803

Some journeys remind us why we do what we do. Daniel Salas Mena's is one of them.

On July 17, 2021, Daniel walked through the doors of BEST803 for the first time after signing up on his birthday. What began as the start of a boxing journey has grown into a story of discipline, perseverance, and continuous development.

Today, we're incredibly proud to celebrate another important milestone as Daniel officially earns his ACOBOX Level 1 Boxing Coach Certification.

Daniel's story represents something we deeply believe at BEST803: great athletes aren't built overnight. They are developed through strong fundamentals, consistent work, humility, and a willingness to keep learning.

Like every athlete who joins our academy, Daniel began by building a solid technical foundation. While BEST803 is widely known for recreational and functional boxing fitness, we've always been committed to teaching authentic boxing. For those who choose the competitive path, our responsibility is to prepare them with the right technical, physical, and mental foundation before they step into the ring.

As Daniel's ambitions in amateur boxing continued to grow, it became clear that he needed more competitive opportunities, more active sparring partners, and a larger competition environment than we could offer at that stage of our program. Together, we agreed that the best decision was for him to continue his competitive development with other boxing programs.

Throughout that journey, Daniel trained with different clubs before eventually representing the Alajuelita Boxing Team, where he continued to grow as an athlete and achieve remarkable success.

No matter whose name appeared on the competition entry, we were always in his corner.

That has always been our philosophy.

We believe boxing is bigger than any single gym. Athletes should have the freedom to grow, learn from different coaches, gain new experiences, and represent the sport with pride. Whether development happens in a private academy or a public boxing program, our commitment remains the same: helping Costa Rican boxing continue to grow.

Watching Daniel's journey has been one of the greatest rewards.

His dedication has earned him the title of four-time National Champion, but beyond the medals, he has earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and everyone who has had the opportunity to work alongside him.

During the past year, Daniel has also been assisting our coaching staff under our guidance and mentorship, learning the responsibilities that come with helping develop other athletes. His official ACOBOX Level 1 Coaching Certification marks another important step; not only in his own development, but also in his ability to give back to the sport that has shaped his life.

At BEST803, our coaching philosophy is built around a hybrid methodology that combines boxing science, strength and conditioning, movement quality, and individualized athlete development. Every athlete is different, and our mission is to find the right balance between technical boxing, physical preparation, and long-term performance. Daniel has embraced this philosophy from the beginning, making this new chapter a natural progression of the work we've been doing together.

One thing we'd like to make clear is that this certification does not mark the end of Daniel's competitive career.

Quite the opposite.

Daniel remains fully committed to his career as an active athlete while continuing to pursue his professional career outside the ring. As a certified coach, he will also support the BEST803 coaching team during the preparation of our competitive athletes as we continue rebuilding our competition program for its official return in 2027.

Athletes who continue competing while coaching offer something incredibly valuable: they lead by example. They understand the daily discipline, sacrifice, and commitment required to improve, and they inspire others through action rather than words.

Daniel represents those values every single day.

Daniel, congratulations on this well-deserved achievement.

Receiving his certification also gave us the opportunity to visit the ACOBOX offices and reconnect with Don Rafa. Moments like these remind us that Costa Rican boxing grows through collaboration, shared knowledge, and the commitment of athletes, coaches, clubs, and organizations that all work toward the same purpose.

Thank you for allowing BEST803 to be part of your journey over these past five years. We are incredibly proud of everything you've accomplished and excited for everything that still lies ahead.

Your story reminds us that success isn't built by one person or one gym alone. It's built through community, mentorship, perseverance, and the willingness to keep learning.

Here's to the next chapter; for you, for BEST803, and for the future of amateur Olympic boxing in Costa Rica.
