Since the age of 5, sports have been an integral part of my life, shaping my journey from a national youth athlete in Aruba to a versatile professional in the fitness and corporate worlds. My early achievements in baseball, tennis, and football instilled in me a dedication to physical excellence and holistic wellness. After studying Finance, Economics, and Accounting, I discovered that fitness could be a powerful tool to combat depression and anxiety. Running, yoga, and later, strength training became not just personal passions but also pathways to professional growth. During my travels in Australia, I gained a reputation as a "fit backpacker," embodying a healthy lifestyle on the go.

In 2014, functional training became my preferred regimen, allowing me to maintain peak condition without traditional gym access. This journey brought me to Costa Rica, where I immersed myself in CrossFit and earned my CrossFit Level 1 Certification in 2018/2019—a pivotal moment that also introduced me to my wife and now business partner, Kathy Mora.

Kathy, who is also a senior consultant and co-owner at BEST803 Boxing, Fitness & Strength Training, brings her expertise in corporate wellness strategy to our team. Together, we are now dedicating ourselves more than ever to serving corporate clients.

We're enhancing our focus on delivering tailored wellness programs designed to manage stress, promote holistic well-being, and elevate organizational performance. Investing in employee mental health isn't just a trend; it's a strategic advantage. Studies show that companies prioritizing their employees' well-being experience 30% faster growth compared to their counterparts who neglect this crucial aspect.

In my coaching approach, I focus on enhancing athleticism across all levels by improving both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems, enhancing strength, mobility, and training the body to react swiftly and powerfully.

  • Developing agility and reaction time
  • Building endurance strength
  • Implementing functional training
  • Enhancing hand and foot speed, coordination, reactive power, and hand-eye coordination
Methods:

  • Utilizing bodyweight exercises and functional movements
  • Incorporating a blend of traditional and contemporary resistance training techniques (such as Kettlebells, TRX, dumbbells, and accessories) to continually challenge both mind and body effectively, optimizing human performance in various aspects of life.
My philosophy emphasizes honing technique across all facets of training, empowering you with the abilities to excel and achieve your goals in all aspects of your livelihood.

Key Components of Our Method:

  • It's fun: Above all, boxing offers a truly enjoyable and addictive experience. The endorphin release gained from boxing is unparalleled by any other dynamic fitness activity on the market today.
  • The fun never fades, unlike most fitness trends, as you are learning the "real science" and a skill that will boost your confidence like no other. Without a doubt and without embarrassment, you will find yourself shadow boxing in the shower and even at work!
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

  • High-Intensity Interval Training is a popular fitness trend proven to be one of the most effective training techniques to date. A typical high-intensity boxing workout, with regular rest periods, provides efficient HIIT training, burning hundreds to over 1000 calories in just 45-60 minutes.
EPOC (Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption)

  • An ensuing effect of our training is something known as EPOC, or Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption. EPOC refers to the additional oxygen consumption required to restore your body to homeostasis.
  • Ultimately, EPOC promotes burning more calories even after the workout is finished, enhancing training outcomes.
Aerobic vs. Anaerobic

  • Traditional exercises like jogging, swimming, cycling, at an intensity provide an exercise level and stable oxygen consumption.
  • Boxing, which generates varied but explosive and intense energy outputs and powerful punches, results in anaerobic training, increasing the body's oxygen demand and exponentially increasing the EPOC effect. Therefore, better and faster results are achieved than with other traditional workouts.
Versatility

  • The versatility of boxing training is truly remarkable. There is always more to learn! Whether you are a beginner or an experienced professional, there are endless ways to continuously progress and challenge yourself both physically and mentally.
  • Whether building more technical combinations, pushing intensity, or extending rounds to make them longer, there are limitless ways to avoid stagnation.
Beyond the unlimited challenges and progressions that boxing offers, it is also versatile in that you can do it anywhere with little or no equipment! Shadow boxing can be done without equipment and in a small space. Working with gloves and bags can be done with minimal equipment and space.

Functionality

  • In addition to being immensely effective for shoulders, biceps, triceps, and deltoids, boxing is truly a whole-body workout. There are few forms of exercise, if any, that are as comprehensive as boxing.
  • You will feel the burn in your calves, quads, hamstrings, entire core from glutes to stomach and transverse abs, arms, shoulders, and back!
  • Each session incorporates various functional training movements that complement boxing and target major muscle groups, particularly the abdomen, for perfect balance.
Strengthening the entire body and abdomen is an advantage for both physical and mental everyday life functions.

Safety

  • As with any training, safety is IMPERATIVE. When teaching boxing, we typically start with beginners, so proper communication, instruction, and progression are essential.
  • At BEST803, we break down boxing mechanics and techniques in such a way that anyone can understand and practice them.
  • By teaching in a way that is easy to understand and follow, we minimize the risk of injury, thereby increasing the likelihood of achieving goals more quickly and efficiently.
